The Kaiela Institute is accelerating positive social change and helping other organisatons deliver the sought after 'step-change' in identified priority areas of employment, education and inclusion. A number of identified elements enable the Institute to deliver a step-change in closing the gap. An intellectual framework has been developed that connects each of these innovate activities and provides a substantial context for change. Once identified, gaps will be filled by applying a now well established place-based partnership model in Shepparton. This approach draws capability and insight from the corporate partners, the University of Melbourne and the City of Greater Shepparton. Corporate resources are drawn from Australia's leading corporations and currently include Wesfarmers, KPMG, QBE, Allens and BHP Billiton. Seconded staff work on practical and applied projects in the community. Additionally the University provides post graduate interns to support the Insitute though the Melbourne Business Practicum Program. The goal of the Kaiela Institute is for Shepparton to be the first community to bridge the disadvantage gap. Access Economics calculates that this ambition will deliver $216m of economic benefit to the Greater Shepparton area. These benefits are the ultimate expression of social inclusion with greater consumption and investment expenditure arising across the entire community as a result.
