Toxic and safe shellfish look the same and taste the same. Our kits can test them onsite, assuring the safety of three billion people depending on seafood worldwide.__________HABs, colloquially known as red tide, can happen anywhere in the world. They consist of a sudden bloom of microalgae capable of producing copious amounts of neurotoxins. These toxins accumulate in filter-feeding mollusks, and make their way up in the food chain killing fish, aquatic mammals and even humans. Recorded mortality rates in humans range from 6% to even 50% in the case of young children. We estimate global mortality to be around 100,000 cases per year. Over 28 countries are gravelly affected by HABs. UNESCO estimates the losses generated by HABs to round billions of dollars per year, valuing an early detection method conservatively at $100M per year.Kaitek's MOSES is the first fast, cost effective method for HAB monitoring, which enables on-site early detection of HAB toxicity in order to prevent both the risk of intoxication and the associated economic loss.
