Luxury Goods & Jewelry - , ,
We aim to enhance the power of jewelry beyond its own beauty. Kalung designs a range of elegant and minimalistic jewelry that represent the elegance and beauty of Bali. Outside of the tourism areas, many Balinese are living in small villages and under basic living conditions. This in stark contrast to the luxurious villas and resorts, which are just an hour away. In these villages, poverty is apparent, as many families cannot rely on the lofty revenues generated by the tourism industry. This often means that their only way of income is limited to farming, which is very much depending on fluctuating crop yields. A direct consequence is that many children are not able to go to school or finish their education. Of all children, only ten percent is able to graduate from high school. This lack in basic education has tremendous consequences for the future of these families and villages as many are not sufficiently equipped to contribute to the economic development of Bali. Instead of going to school, many children end up joining their family as farmworkers, which means that the impoverished situation in these areas remains unchanged. Improving basic education is one way to reverse this cycle of poverty. At Kalung we strongly believe in access to education as a way to enable these children to dream and create their future and as a result improve living conditions in the long-run and contribute to a prospering Bali for everyone. We have therefore teamed up with Bali Children's Project (BCP), our partner-NGO. BCP has ambitious plans to build schools and sponsor under-privileged children. Together, we work on our mutual goal to fight poverty through education. We do this by donating ten percent of our revenue to BCP. This means that each sale directly contributes to BCP's aim to improve the lives of thousands of children and families in a consistent and inspiring way.
