Kerala underwent the worst disaster in nearly a century due to unusually high rainfall during the monsoon season. Over 480 people died, many are missing, at least a million people were evacuated. According to the Kerala government, one-sixth of the total population of Kerala had been directly affected by the floods and related incidents. At present, Kerala Government is taking a lot of initiatives to stabilize the situation and to meet the basic and immediate needs of people thereby ensuring safety and security. In order to support the Government, for speedy rehabilitation of victims of the flood, a set of Social Workers and Development Professionals have come forward with a project "KARANGAL – HELPING HANDS" aiming to respond to the disaster to make the community disaster resilient.
