Karin Arink graduated at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. She won the First Prize Prix de Rome 1992.She exhibits extensively both in Holland and abroad, e.g. in Van Abbemuseum, Boijmans van Beuningen, Museo Pecci and Stichting De Pont, and is represented by a.o. Galerie Tanya Rumpff in Haarlem. Arink works in a variety of media and makes (cut) photos, textile sculptures and installations, drawings, animations and texts. Her work is centered round the different manifestations of ‘the self' in which physical, mental, emotional and social aspects overlap and contradict. The ‘I' becomes manifest in relation to ‘the other' through posture – garments – language – sign and all these aspects appear in the work of Arink.Collaboration is an important part of her practice, both as member of Foundation B.a.d (from 1993) and in other projects.A writer and lecturer at various academies in the Netherlands and Belgium, she is currently based at the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rotterdam.
