Karmantik means craftsmen in Sanskrit. Our business revolves around these talented craftsmen. Many don't even consider ‘Mochis' as craftsmen, it's just another caste, doing its job handed down to them generations after generation. Karmantik is a social business which collaborates with artisans to create handcrafted footwear. The venture intends to encourage the craft of shoemaking, make it a lucrative profession and provide the respectability the age old craft deserves.Karmantik works with a twofold objective. The primary one is to support the traditional Indian shoemakers by giving them a fair market price and introducing their authentic designs to the global market; the other one is to create a market for handcrafted shoes that are comfortable and at the same time, good-looking, vibrant, elegant and authentic. Our ultimate vision is to create a platform that promote the creations of artisans and craftsmen by bringing about a balance between the traditional and modern aesthetics of design and fashion.The brand creates products that are peculiar, subtle, and most importantly comfortable. We make only limited pieces in each design to ensure exclusivity and incorporate various handloom fabrics in our designs such as kalamakari, ikat, and hand block prints. Designed for the Indo-western generation, they are well padded, slip-resistant smart casuals that one could pair up with almost anything — from a saree to the regular tops and jeans. All our designs are inspired by traditional kohlapuri and juti patterns and possess an elegant twist.
