OUR MANDATE:The Victoria County Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing community awareness and appreciation of local heritage. It seeks to inspire and engage with the public through cultural exhibits, events and partnerships within its community. Through its outreach initiatives, the VCHS features, celebrates and shares local stories and how they connect to Canada's history.A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT THE MUSEUM - A project of the Victoria County Historical SocietyDuring the centennial of Victoria County in 1961, construction began on a purpose-built museum at 435 Kent Street west, a facility that was formally opened on July 4th, 1962. The addition of a barn and a log cabin made this location into a destination for both local families and curious tourists alike.Shortly before the turn of the twenty-first century, the historical society began to look for a new space in which to exhibit its collection. The former county gaol became available in 2003 when it was closed as a correctional facility, and in 2011, a new museum was at last opened.HELP KEEP THE HISTORY OF THE COMMUNITY ALIVE!
