Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung Historical Centre is a historically significant meeting place located along the Rainy River in Northwestern Ontario and has deep cultural and spiritual meaning to Indigenous peoples throughout North America. Also known as Manitou Mounds, it is home to the largest concentration of Indigenous burial mounds in North America and was designated a National Historic Site in 1969. The Centre is owned and operated by Rainy River First Nations and is an educational resource for the community and the entire region, offering educational programming and workshops focused on Anishinaabe history, language, geography, and culture to thousands of students and visitors each year. A key tourism destination and cultural attraction within Treaty #3, KNCWN also cares for over 20,000 artifacts, has a gift shop showcasing artwork by local Indigenous artists, and a restaurant featuring traditional Anishinaabe and locally sourced ingredients.
