Kazakh Ablai Khan University offers three stages of higher Education (BA, MA, Ph.D.) specializing in the humanities, languages, pedagogy, international relations and economics. The University ranks fifth among Kazakhstani universities specializing in the humanities and economic sciences (2013 National Ranking). According to the 2013 Programme Ranking by the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating, 5 study programmes (International Relations, Foreign Language Teaching, Translation Studies, Foreign Philology and Area Studies) rank first and 1 programme (International Law) ranks second among similar programmes of all the HEIs of Kazakhstan. It is the only university in Kazakhstan that has courses taught in 14 foreign languages and it trains foreign language instructors for the whole country. The university is the centre for research in methods of teaching and applied linguistics. It chairs the National Methodological Council of FL educators. The National Standards and Base Curriculum for FLT programmes are developed by the University teaching staff. The university mission is to disseminate the idea of multilingualism in training specialists of all university majors. Ablai Khan University aims at improving National System of foreign language education based on CERF. The University is a member of European Language Council (CEL/ELC), L'Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), Internatioan Association of Universities, Basic Organization for Languages and Cultures of the CIS, Academic Impact UN, etc. The University has been running masters' programmes since 2000. Currently Ablai Khan University offers 14 MA programmes in International Relations, Foreign Language Teaching, Regional studies, Culture Studies, Philological Studies in Foreign Languages, Oriental Studies, Translation and Interpretation, Tourism, Journalism, Pedagogy and Psychology, Economics, International Law, Marketing, Public and Municipal Management. Majority of courses are taught in English.
