The Krakow Festival Office means the biggest Krakow festivals, spectacular shows for an audience of 100,000 people, musical, theatrical, film, artistic or literary events that attract much attention both in Poland and Europe. The KFO is one of the most active Polish institutions of public life. Established several years ago in order to show Krakow as the European City of Culture 2000 to the world, it continues to operate, introducing new trends in the management of cultural events and programs for many years. It is on the initiative of the KFO that festivals such as the award-winning Sacrum Profanum and Misteria Paschalia, as well as the Film Music Festival, the ArtBoom Festival, the Conrad Festival or the Opera Rara were established. As a result of the KFO's activity, Krakow also obtained the long expected title of UNESCO City of Literature after three years of efforts in 2013. This has reinforced the position of Krakow as a centre of support of readership and Polish literature. Numerous literary campaigns (e.g., the Second Life of a Book, literary walks, etc.) and, most importantly, the Conrad Award for a debut writer introduced by a resolution of the Krakow City Council are proofs of this fact. However, the KFO's activities are not reduced to festivals. Thanks to the ICE Kraków Congress Centre opened in 2014 and operated by the KFO, the Office can organise both cultural, artistic, business and scientific events under one roof. In this way, it contributes to the development and promotion of the city and the dissemination of knowledge about the meetings industry in Poland.
