Education Management - Kula, Hawaii, United States
Ke Kula O Ho'omakuapono (KKOH) is a new experience-based school serving pre-K to 8th grade students in Kula, Maui. Operating on a third-generation, family-owned persimmon farm, KKOH is committed to providing differentiated learning models and fostering a deep connection between our students and the 'aina. Our bilingual education model focuses on farm-based, experiential learning and developing the foundations of oral and written proficiency in Hawaiian and English, with curriculum deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture and Aloha. Our school day begins with feeding the sheep and goats that live on campus, a routine that helps build empathy and responsibility for other living creatures. Reading, writing, and basic maths taught through story-telling follow throughout the morning. In the afternoons we apply the skills they've learned to projects on the farm while learning life skills like gardening and painting. All of our teachers and students participate in care and upkeep of the schoolhouse, farm, and farm animals, building self-reliance and holistic life skills. Education equity is foundational to KKOH's mission, and our students come from diverse backgrounds with different financial needs.
