About Kemet Institute:Since 2001 the Kemet Institute has been teaching financial literacy in low- income communities in cities including Chicago and Los Angeles with the goal of bringing finance professionals and entrepreneurs backinto the community to offer their services pro-bono to those who need it the most. In February 2013, the Kemet Institute decided to further enrich these communities by partnering with a new advisory board of successful business leaders, principles, professors, civil rights scholars, and social policy and charter school management professionals, to explore creating the L.I.F.E. Charter Schools in under-served communities. The L.I.F.E. Schools will serve as schools and community centers where children will receive an excellent academic curriculum and their parents can also benefit from free workshops in financial literacy, life skills and entrepreneurship. Along with teaching these instrumental concepts for success, the Kemet Institute focuses on college readiness. To help with the high cost of post-secondary education, L.I.F.E. Schools will have the option to donate a percentage of its revenue back to its students for post-secondary education funding. The goal of the Kemet Institute is to bridge the wealth gap by not only educating children and their parents, but empowering them to change their finances for new generations and to finally break the poverty cycle.
