Music - Buckner, KY, us
The Kentucky Chamber Orchestra, founded in 2017 by Ben Crouch as the Kentuckiana Philharmonic Orchestra, is an orchestral ensemble that celebrates historical music from the classical era. We focus on the genius works of composers such as W.A. Mozart, Joseph Haydn, G.F. Handel, and the like. The mission statement of the Kentucky Chamber Orchestra is:"To maintain and promote the importance and relevance of classical music, to provide opportunities for education regarding the history and significance of the fine arts, and to promote the shared appreciation and enjoyment of music throughout the Greater Louisville area and beyond."The Kentucky Chamber Orchestra changed its name at the end of the 2018-2019 fiscal year; we were formerly known as the "Kentuckiana Philharmonic Orchestra." This change was made in an effort to create a unique and specific direction for our organization. Making this change allowed us to reduce the size of our ensemble to more accurately represent the instrumentation that would have been used when Mozart and Haydn's music was brand new. We believe the inherent beauty and genius of these early composers deserves to be represented. Regular performance of these works with a high level of musicality helps to keep their genius alive for future generations to enjoy. Our core ensemble consists of 31 permanent members with an 18-person string section (5 4 4 3 2), a 12-person wind section, and one timpanist. This composition reflects a traditional chamber orchestra instrumentation.
