Kesher is a national organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for families of individuals with special needs. To that end, Kesher's operations include providing up-to-date content, research, and information, as well as assistance in actualizing legal rights; training courses and workshops for all of family members. And working with professionals to act as partners to parents caring for special needs children. Kesher has branches in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Beer-Sheva, ensuring that its services are tailored to the specific geographic needs. In addition, Kesher has three branches operating on behalf of the needs of the Arab population.Kesher represents over 1,500,000 family members and the 330,000 children with special-needs like autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, and genetic diseases and disorders.Special-needs children are often unable to talk, sit or walk, hear, see or reach normative milestones. They require intensive regular therapies such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy. They rely on specialized equipment for sitting, standing, walking as well as hearing, communicating, toileting, and lifting. They undergo regular medical procedures and frequent hospitalization. Most importantly, they rely on their families for motivation, support and as a safe-haven from their life's challenges.Raising a child with special-needs creates huge financial and emotional strain on a family. If not properly addressed, those difficulties may lead to divorce, bankruptcy, and/or social isolation. Kesher is the only organization that works to ensure every special-needs family is as strong, empowered, involved and informed as they can be.
