Kidesign is an educational company that makes Design Technology curricula for 3D Printing in primary and secondary schools. Kidesign allows teachers to deliver engaging projects and activities for their class and encourages students to use technology as a creative tool and learn through making. The activities are collaborative, fun, gender-neutral and focus on a range of themes such as designing a city, building robots, fixing and improving real products. Kidesign's motivation is driven by the fact that the physical and digital worlds are becoming increasingly separate for young generations; they live increasingly in virtual worlds whilst taking the physical world for granted with a limited understanding of how it is designed and built. This will be increasingly important in the future, as our consumption, communication, learning and interaction become more digital, yet we consume products we don't know how are made, while the resources used to make them become more and more scarce. The digitally-savvy generation needs a new education model, as they require more interactive ‘learning through making' experiences to synthesise their attainment through applying what they have learned in real world scenarios.
