In 2007, Kids' Health Links Foundation (KHLF) was created to address the social isolation experienced by hospitalized youth. During this time, Upopolis was born; a safe, secure and free of charge social platform for youth with a medical challenge, chronic/critical illness, disability or hospitalization. Most recently, they have branched out to include the siblings of these youth, and youth grieving the death of a loved one. The KHLF mission and its programs have further expanded since its founding. Over the years, two other platforms were formed; one for child life specialists (Upedia) and the other for child and youth mental health professionals (Umind). Both these sites enable professionals to connect with one another, share best practices, and access tools and resources to help them provide better care.
