Kinetic Batteries has developed and patented the first scalable additive manufacturing technology for battery production, which will reduce costs, save energy, and increase manufacturing flexibility as compared to traditional and developing processes. The future of energy storage depends on the price of batteries dropping from $250/kWh today to below $100/kWh. At this price point, lithium-ion energy delivery systems become cost-competitive with traditional energy delivery systems such as internal combustion engines, thus driving market-level adoption. KB's dry spray process will result in savings of more than 40% over the current process, enabling battery manufacturers to realize these targets as much as two years earlier than is currently being projected. Moreover, the additive manufacturing approach enables designers to incorporate batteries as structural components, fill currently unused space with conformable batteries, or produce batteries with highly customized electrochemical performance.
