Kingswood goes large with dual EFI inkjet investmentKingswood iOptus has set up a large format print division in Kent to complement its central London print hub.Kingswood iOptus has branched out into large format through a £750,000 investment in equipment based around two EFI Vutek inkjet presses. But the central London company, which operates from premises in Clifton Street close to Liverpool Street station, has taken a new factory at Swanley to accommodate the new division."We have always produced large format work alongside our commercial printing, but on a small scale," says managing director Robert Long That has changed with investment in a Vutek GS3250 LX Pro 3.2 metre superwide rollfed printer and an H1625 LED hybrid machine. These are supported by a fully specced Kongsberg cutting table and HP Latex printers. "We have gone for it in a fairly big fashion," he says. The impetus came from existing clients who are buying large format as well as smaller format digital print. Even the legal firms that Kingswood was originally set up to serve have a demand for larger format printing to market themselves at events in the main, Long explains."We have a team of sales people working in different sectors including specialists for retail and construction as well as others working across the range," he adds.Long was looking keenly at the large format sector during Drupa leading to the investment directly with EFI shortly after. The company is the first in the world to partner the GS3250 and H1625 alongside each other. Output profiles have been balanced through ColourMatch to give what Long calls a very good consistency between the machines even though they are using different approaches. One is dedicated to roll fed materials while the H1625 can cope with shorter runs of rolled substrates as well as a huge range of flatbed substrates, up to 50mm thick. Both machines are using LED UV units to cure the ink and have EFI Fiery front ends, giving a familiar interface to a company that has used Fierys as the digital front end to its cutsheet business.
