According to the International Association of Yoga Therapists: "Yoga therapy is the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups."Taking it down a notch, yoga therapy is is taking our regular (or not so regular) practice of yoga and diving deeper into the roots of daily experiences. These experiences may be pain or discomfort, or perhaps you are interested in expanding on feelings of confusion, joy, anxiety, sorrow, etc. Experiences may show up differently for each individual through body, mind, and and Spirit; therefore it is my role to assess the body as a whole, for a more personalized practice.There are numerous modalities that yoga therapy encompasses, so if asana (physical movement) isn't for you, perhaps expanding your understanding of prāṇāyāma (breath work), mudrā (energetic locks), or meditation will benefit you!The practice of yoga therapy can be used to support your healing process, or help you explore and reconnect with your inner Self.
