Komodo Island is the home of ancient animals that still exist today. The Komodo National Park is a national park in the Republic of Indonesia located within the Nusa Tenggara in the border part between the states by East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara. The park admits the 3 big Komodo islands, Padar and Rinca, and twenty-six smaller ones, with an amount area of 1,733 kilometers (603 km² of it land). The national park was founded in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard. Afterward, it was devoted to protecting another species, admitting marine species. In 1991 the national park was announced a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
