Renewables & Environment - Rize, Rize, Turkey
Tea production in Turkey ranks fifth in the world with approximately 1.2 million tons per year and tea fiber waste is produced during this process. This resulting woody material is a mixture of tea litter, fibers and tea powder that is separated and accumulated at various stages of production in tea factories. The amount of tea fiber revealed after the tea process is significant with 60-70 thousand tonnes annually, which are not evaluated in any way and destroyed in the form of burning or being left to rot. These solutions cause environmental problems, loss of labor, extra cost, and more importantly, destruction of a product that can be turned into commercial value. Komporize manufactures plastic composite material with tea fiber and/or tea powder mixed in different ratios and methods by using tea waste from factories filtered to various extents, and plastic material structured as thermoset or thermoplastic. The fiber content in the blends is up to 90% depending on the area of use. Products with waste tea fiber combined with binders are more natural and environmentally friendly than those made with pure plastic. Komporize aims to reduce the environmental damage caused by the plastics remaining in nature by ensuring that these products are lost earlier than other plastics. Produced raw materials address automotive, furniture, construction, architecture, the toy industry and the companies that produce end products for consumers.
