Yoga at Kookaburra Creek is in the Hatha Yoga tradition which has been taught and practised in India for thousands of years. Hatha Yoga is a comprehensive system of exercising and toning the body which helps to purify and strengthen the physical system and also to relax and control the mind.Yoga is an ancient healing practice which has evolved over many thousands of years. At its most fundamental level, Hatha Yoga was originally intended to bring the body, mind and spirit into harmony and balance so the deeper meditation practices could be done with greater ease, leading the practitioner towards liberation.In modern times our goal may be different - to strive for perfect health, lasting happiness and general wellbeing - and yoga can assist in this. When practised regularly and sincerely yoga has the potential to bring us into harmony and balance, and bring about healing of both body and mind.Meditation is a state of mind which can be accessed by learning techniques to calm and control thoughts, emotions and outer sensations. Meditation classes at Kookaburra Creek are taught in a systematic and experiential manner and are suitable for complete beginners.Our classes draw on traditional yoga teachings. We have had the great privilege of studying directly with contemporary masters such as Swami Venkatesananda of the Sivananda lineage, AG and Indra Mohan from the Krishnamacharya lineage, Sri Swami Somanatha and others both in Australia and India.
