OUR STORY:The foundation for KRSMA was laid when I was a 17-year-old undergraduate student, living in Guntur, a town in Andhra Pradesh that is famous for its chilies. The local Bishop allowed me to taste the wines that he was importing from Italy. While the wines were nothing excellent, they heralded the beginning of my love affair with wines.I began making wine as an amateur hobby which started with buying a few kilograms of grapes and placing them in a glass jar but quickly evolved into a more serious pursuit as I imported yeast, nutrients and corks from England. When I was married in 1982, my wife, Uma, was shocked to see an entire bedroom in my apartment converted into a mini-winery filled with demi-johns. However I was fortunate that she was a microbiologist and was eager to take up a new challenge. While we were both passionate about our hobby, life caught up with us and we became busy starting our venture, a pharmaceutical company as well as raising our children. Our vision is to create extraordinary wines that incorporates our broad exposure of wines and offers a distinctive taste. Instead of setting up our winery within the predominant wine regions in India, we decided to set up our winery near Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site,in Karnataka. While the winery was not in a conventional location, we both felt the site was special and presented us with endless opportunities. We have spent the past several years developing and nurturing our wines. Our goal has been to develop exquisite wines that also capture the unique characteristics of the land we have found. We feel privileged to share our wines with other wine aficionados.- Uma Chigurupati and Krishna Prasad Chigurupati
