KSCU provides hands-on radio broadcasting and leadership experience by enabling undergraduate students and volunteers to operate all aspects of an FM radio station. KSCU 103.3 FM continues a long tradition of radio broadcasting at Santa Clara University dating back to 1948 when Fr. Ferdinand J. Spieler, S.J., created KVSC, "The Kampus Voice of Santa Clara." Reflecting the mission and goals of Santa Clara University, the Jesuit University of Silicon Valley, the station has a proud history as a forum for the debate of issues, ideas, and concerns on campus and in the surrounding community, and it offers an eclectic selection of non-commercial music, sports, and public affairs programming. KSCU has been recognized locally and nationally for its content. Metro Silicon Valley has named it the best college radio station in its annual "Best Of" edition several times. Collegiate Broadcasters, Inc. has honored individual students at KSCU for their production work and news radio documentaries. College Media Advisors, a national group representing advisors at colleges and universities across the country, presented KSCU with its Diversity Award, which "recognizes a medium's staff for reflecting the racial, cultural, religious, lifestyle and ethnic diversity of the collegiate community. It pays tribute to the staff that realizes it cannot exclude groups of students, or it will disenfranchise them and deny them equal access and an equal voice on campus."
