Lan Vwa is a non-profit organization founded to empower communities through education. Lan Vwa, which means "The Voice", has been in operation for 5 years. We leverage technology to provide access to education in rural communities. Our main project is the village of Joconal, Guatemala. Before Lan Vwa stepped in, education in Joconal ended at 6th grade. Students would walk 3 hours each day to go to school. Our cyber school in Guatemala currently provides the students of Joconal with access to secondary education (7th - 11th) by connecting them to a qualified teacher via an online classroom. We had our first ever graduating class on October 29, 2016.Lack of education is at the root of so much global need: clean water, infant mortality, immigration, and generational poverty. Our model is allowing us address these needs in the areas where we work by providing secondary education to communities that have never had the opportunity before. As we plant each school, we continue to prepare them to become self sustaining giving ownership to the community where the school is located.
