Since its founding in May 2016 Laser Precision Solutions' main goal has been to solve the ‘slippery track problem': Autumn leaves and other contaminants leave a greasy layer on railway tracks. The resulting lower friction their causes slower acceleration and longer braking distances for trains. This age-old problem, dating from the early 1800s, is still faced by railway companies all over the world. The slippery tracks lead to increased maintenance, severe punctuality issues and potential safety risks. LPS' Tribometer measures the rails' slipperiness, providing the opportunity to adapt both the braking and accelerating force with the goal to optimize a train's stop time, acceleration time and energy efficiency. LPS' LaserTrain, containing high-power lasers to get rid of leaves and rubbish on railway tracks, is an efficient solution for keeping friction levels optimal even in areas where the slippery track problem would otherwise pose huge problems.
