Laura Rathbone van Meurs qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist (BSc Hons) from the University of Central Lancashire in 2010. After working in the NHS and the private sector Laura went on to specialise in chronic and complex pain states working at St Thomas' Hospital in London. She obtained her Masters (MSc) from Kings' College London in 2016 in Advanced Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy.She is experienced in delivering tailored physiotherapy treatment incorporating psychology skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness. She co-organises Le Pub Scientifique, a regular multi-disciplinary meeting for people working in and interested in the field of complex pain syndromes. Speakers are invited to lead discussion with other therapists, doctors, scientists and philosophers exploring theories whilst nurturing a supportive inter-disciplinary network and sharing a great beer in the heart of Amsterdam. Laura is passionate about this project and encouraging people to come together and openly ask the difficult questions about working within this area of the health care industry.Laura is alos able to deliver clinical training on Physiotherapy practice, incorprating psychology tools with physiotherapy, approaches to working with people who have a complex pain syndrome and theories around pain mechanisms. At present, she is in the process of gaining clinical recognition within The Netherlands, where she lives with her family. In order to do this she is learning Dutch. Once completed, she will be available for clinical practice. She is currently interested in the new philosophical conversations around pain, experience and what it is to be human.
