Donald A. Statland was born in Brooklyn, New York where he lived until he graduated from Brooklyn College at the age of 20. After graduation, Mr. Statland served in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army. After honorably fulfilling this obligation, he attended New York University School of Law, which has a strong tradition in the education of tax lawyers and is generally recognized as one of the top law schools in the United States.Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Statland obtained a position in Washington, D.C. as a legal advisor in the Office of the General Counsel to the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. Mr. Statland's work as a legal advisor earned him the opportunity to work as a trial attorney in the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he handled tax cases on behalf of the IRS. While with the Justice Department, Mr. Statland was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the District of Columbia.Following the completion of his government service, Mr. Statland entered private practice. He joined a major Chicago tax law firm where he became a partner within two years, successfully representing taxpayers in negotiations with the IRS and in the courts. Mr. Statland ultimately left the firm to form his own practice and has since aided individuals, large and small corporations, corporate officers, partnerships, estates, trusts, tax-exempt entities and other taxpayers in overcoming their federal and state tax problems at all levels of the tax system.
