Publishing - Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Leading Edge Education was an integrated publishing and educational services business founded in Sydney in 1994, with a focus on Australian school education markets. It became the largest economics publisher in its sector in Australia, before being acquired by Pearson Education Australia in 2004. Its key markets were economics, business studies and commerce textbooks for Australian school students and teachers, and it provided a year-long exam preparation course as well as essay strategy courses, in-school courses and lecture programs. It also published the Leading Edge Economics Update, a fortnightly (and later, monthly) update of developments in the Australian and global economies. Leading Edge's two best-selling textbooks, The Market Economy and Australia in the Global Economy, continue to be published under the Pearson brand. Their co-authors are Tim Dixon and John O'Mahony, supported by a team of researchers. Former staff of Leading Edge have moved on to roles as advisers to the Australian Prime Minister and the Treasurer, and also to roles at the Reserve Bank of Australia, the Treasury, the OECD, Google, and roles in universities and finance in Australia, the United States and Italy.
