Civic & Social Organization - Camerino, Marche, Italy
The National League for the Defense of the Dog has now half a century of activity behind but it brings very well his years and, since 1950, the year of its foundation, is constantly fighting to help the animals in difficulty, abandoned, mistreated, not respected . It became a juridical body in 1964 (DPR 922), is a private, non-party, non-profit organization, which does not receive funding from the State and operates throughout the national territory, from Trentino Alto Adige to Sicily, thanks to the generous support of its members and the commitment of many volunteers. Since February 2006, it is also registered in the National Register of Associations of Social Promotion, pursuant to and for the purposes of the Law of 7 December 2000, n. 383. It currently has about 125 local sections and 20 delegations. CAMERINO SECTION: In 1989 about thirty people joined to organize something in defense of animals, especially dogs, privileged victims of abandonment and cruelty. I was there too, convinced that I should be able to do my part for a cause that I thought was sacrosanct. So we founded a section of the National League for the defense of the dog, one of the most prestigious and active associations at national level. We started with picking up two dogs and it seemed like we had a lot of work to do. At that time the stray dogs caught were eliminated after three days. From two we passed shortly to six, to eighteen, to thirty. In 1990 we started the construction of the current shelter. The following year, law 281 finally prohibited the removal of strays. From that moment on we became, and still are, the only point of reference for all the Municipalities of A.S.L. n. 10, completely devoid of any shelter. We currently have 277 dogs available for adoption. We have collected more than 2,000, more than 800 reaffirmed. Roberto Cola, President pro tempore of the section.
