Education Management - , Alta Verapaz, Guatemala
Li Ch'utam's vision is to promote sustainable development while improving possibilities and conditions for local inhabitants through innovative and cutting-edge initiatives at the community level. We believe in the importance of digital literacy and the increased access to opportunities these skills will give children in their futures. We work with multiple indigenous Q'eqchi villages in the Polochic Valley of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, providing resources and services to children and adults to make education more accessible to the community. To achieve that goal, we focus our efforts on the following four project areas:1) Providing classroom support in the lower Basico grades (ages 7-13), by assisting local teachers (at their request) in their classrooms;2) Facilitating extracurricular activities at our Knowledge & IT Center including access to a library/study area, basic computer programming, math/science, & language courses, and creative/team building educational activities;3) Working closely with families in the valley to understand their income level and any other challenges students may face in the home to achieving higher education and providing tailored financial assistance through scholarships; and,4) Offering adult, family, and community level activities and workshops to build skills and knowledge through a holistic approach.
