Health, Wellness & Fitness - Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
LMW is a student club at Western Sydney University which is supported by the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM). We seek to create a student community from all health-related disciplines with an interest in improving lifestyle-related health outcomes. Together we will develop a passion, share ideas, find opportunities, learn more about healthy lifestyle practices and engage in conceptualising how to empower ourselves and our future clients/patients using these practices. We as health care professionals of the future are faced with the task of tackling the complex and multi-faceted burden of lifestyle-related health issues. Lifestyle Medicine is a comprehensive, whole systems approach to contemporary medicine which focuses on integrating lifestyle practices into patient care to help prevent, manage and treat lifestyle-related non-communicable diseases. Healthy lifestyle practices leverage the impact daily habits and actions have on both short and long term health and quality of life. As future health-care professionals we need to engage in combining our various skills and scopes in areas such as physical activity, diet and nutrition, mental health and stress management, sleep, social interaction, mindfulness and meditation practices and reducing drug and alcohol consumption to bring forward progressive and sustainable solutions to address the health issues and concerns of modern medicine and health care. ASLM recognizes students are vital to the push for change within the medical and health care community and as such provides free membership for students. This will provide you with access to a diverse range of educational, networking and professional development opportunities to help equip you for a future improving domestic and global health outcomes.
