LightSail Energy is developing energy storage systems that use compressed air as the storage medium.Energy storage is the key to modernizing the electrical grid world-wide. The market for this technology is almost limitless -- if the requirements of low cost, high efficiency and long lifetime can be achieved.Compressed air has long been recognized as having the potential to be the lowest-cost technology for large-scale energy storage. However, the thermodynamic inefficiency of conventional air compressors and motors has rendered them impractical for this application.
