Lincoln Theatre Royal is a Grade II listed city landmark which saw its first curtain up in 1893. We are Lincoln's premier theatre located at the heart of the city, on Clasketgate, just a stone's throw from the High Street and at the bottom of the famous Steep Hill which leads to the historic Cathedral Quarter, a thriving cultural centre.In 2010 the stunning 482 seat Victorian auditorium was restored. The extensive refurbishment project also brought technical facilities and public areas up to date for a 21st century audience. Using this welcoming creative space we aim to connect with the increasingly diverse population of Lincolnshire's county town and the surrounding area.LTR's contribution to the community is unique: as a traditional nineteenth century theatre, seeing a show here is unlike any other experience in the area. We are now predominantly a receiving house which allows us to provide a vibrant and extensive artistic programme. The delightful and intimate auditorium is the perfect setting for the eclectic mix of high quality professional performing arts on offer year-round: including drama, musicals, West End tours, family shows, ballet, opera, comedy, talks, tribute bands and pantomime.We are also extremely proud of our much loved in-house company, ID Productions, run by LTR's Artistic Director Ian Dickens, who debuts plays here before touring. Also produced in-house is the annual pantomime; five weeks of the year that are eagerly anticipated by all, our loyal audience often tell us that Christmas begins with a trip to our panto!2014 saw the inauguration of our Theatre in Education (TIE) outreach programme which utilises the power of theatre to inspire, engage and educate school-age children. The first production, Trenches, Guns, Drums and Yells commemorating World War One, was exceptionally well received. The company intends to develop a portfolio of scripts on topics that tie in to the national curriculum and poignant historical events.
