Lingobyte is an early-stage startup by students of Stanford University with a mission to make language learning fast and fun. Our patent-pending software allows users to watch content in their target language with custom subtitles catered to their fluency level. Watching films and shows in a target language is a form of comprehensible input that effectively exposes the learner to native speaking and cultural customs. However, subtitles exclusively in the viewer's native language make it difficult to practice vocabulary or learn new words. No subtitles means the viewer will not have a full understanding of the plot and is unlikely to continue watching.Lingobyte is the solution.Lingobyte tracks the user's vocabulary and replaces words they already know to create a hybrid subtitle. Subtitles are interactive, allowing the user to check definitions of words or phrases, add or remove words from their vocabulary database, and export target words to a flashcard set for extra practice. Lingobyte's software is compatible with any streaming platform that has subtitle options in the user's native and target languages.Lingobyte allows users to simultaneously practice reading and listening.
