Lite Run Inc. invented and is marketing anti-gravity pants for walking rehabilitation, based upon spacesuit technology. The pants or "Exosuits" are exceptionally comfortable. Combined with a walker frame and pneumatic controls, they provide "unweighting gait therapy" for victims of stroke, spinal cord injury, and other neurologic and orthopedic conditions. Up to one-half of a patient's body weight may be offloaded by the Exosuit. A recently published clinical study showed gait patients walked over twice as far, stayed vertical over twice as long while requiring less than one half the therapist labor compared to current gait therapy methods. The Lite Run Gait Trainer and Exosuits are Class 1 devices and are presently available for sale. Initial usage of the Lite Run's products is occurring in inpatient rehab, transitional rehab and skilled nursing facilities. Several future home and commercial products are planned with the platform technology.Lite Run is privately held and headquartered in St. Paul MN. The company holds 6 US patents covering its technology with foreign filings pending. Lite Run has received grant support from 3 agencies: The Center for Translation of Rehabilitation Engineering Advances and Technology (TREAT); the New England Pediatric Device Consortium (NEPDC); and the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation (NIDILRR).
