LiTeAfrica is a for-profit social enterprise filling the distribution gap of energy efficient technologies to improve the health, income and education of Africa's low-income households.600 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa use kerosene lanterns for light, costing families $50 a year. Solar lamps are clean, affordable, nearly doubles children's study time, can increase households' income by 30% and saves families money. Additionally, millions of people in Sub-Saharan Africa still cook using traditional fire and stoves, emitting 1 billion tons of greenhouse gasses and cause an estimated 2 million premature deaths a year from smoke pollution. Fuel efficient stoves save households up to 75% in fuel use, reduce chronic smoke exposure, dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save families time spent on cooking and are affordable. Technologies that tackle these issues exist but do not reach end users due to broken supply chains, lack of financing, poor marketing and lack of consumer trust. LiTeAfrica partners with rural and semi-urban retail and mobile money shops to deliver energy efficient, Life-Improving Technologies into the hands of Africa's low income, rural end users while providing marketing training, warranty, financing through Pay-As-You-Go service, and other after-sales services.
