LVA's target population is low literacy adults with reading, writing, or speaking English skills at or below the 5th grade level. As a volunteer-based organization, LVA recruits, trains, and supports tutors who provide reading, writing, and English language instruction at no cost in one-on-one or small group setting.LVA has a unique niche in education by offering instruction at the time and place of student need. Not all adult students can succeed in a classroom setting. Work schedules, transportation, child-care issues, time constraints, and lack of self confidence can hinder low literacy level students from moving forward, The LVA model eliminates those barriers..
