The social implications of the LVET system are varied and impactful. With the published failure of the FDA passive tracking initiative, the LVET system offers a viable commercially beneficial system to the ill conceived RFID tracking system. From a social position, the system offers greatly increased security against a terror attack on the nation's beef supply. A successful attack on the food supply would affect the economy, the nation's psyche as well as cripple the beef industry. By monitoring animals, specifically in arenas were animals from multiple producers merge; the LVET system allows very fast disease detection and traceback capability in hours, not days. By implementing the LVET system, any attack could be quickly identified and the affected animals isolated, saving thousands of animals in the vicinity of each affected animal from slaughter. Additionally, the social benefits include less waste in animal feed and producer resources while still increasing daily average weight gain. The system also addresses the current hot topic of blanket drug treatments by giving producers a real time method to monitor at risk animals reducing or eliminating the need for blanket innoculations.
