Loc8 is a patent-pending image scanning software developed to search for people and objects captured in a digital image. Loc8 was born out of a need to address major challenges in the current practices of Search and Rescue/Recovery (SAR) missions across the globe. Even as SAR operations deploy more UAV (drones) and manned aircraft to assist in searches, oftentimes one of two problems will occur. Problem number 1, pilots typically do not use a systematic approach to their mission planning for the search. Problem number 2, the current practice of manually viewing each image collected is a daunting task for even the most experienced and skilled searcher. The practice of manually viewing potentially thousands of high-resolution digital images is time-consuming and prone to physical limitations of the searcher caused by unknown color-blindness and eye fatigue. Loc8 was designed to address these and many more challenges with the current practices in SAR missions. Loc8 can be used to detect persons or objects based on user-defined colors associated with the subject of the search. Once Loc8 identifies the potential presence of the subject in an image, the searcher flags these images and Loc8 generates a report with the geographical coordinates of the subjects matching the user-defined colors. Loc8 was designed to save time and resources in the effort to save lives. Loc8, Once Lost, Now Found.
