Local A. Details

Local A. mostly works with art projects involving groups of people in workshops and performances. In these situations, participants are part of the original creation of artworks, which the artists then continue to elaborate and bring them into the contemporary art context. Local A. calls this process Workshop as Research. We believe in art as a means for positive change from within the community and art as a learning process, which works in all directions. Local A. is an artist group consisting of Jenny Berntsson and Felice Hapetzeder, founded in 2009 with the project Bygg Rec at Tensta konsthall. Local A. produced Record Construct in cooperation with Istanbul ECoC 2010. During 2013 Local A. were working with the project Art Island with Norrköping Art Museum. In 2015 and 2016 Local A. is showing at PASAJ Istanbul gallery, Gävle Konstcentrum, Machon Hamayim in Tel Aviv and Husby Kunsthalle in Stockholm. In 2015 Local A. has started Klinik as study circles in Sweden. Facilitators, who collaborate with Local A., develop the Klinik method in independent circle groups. Local A. provides help and gathers feedback to develop Klinik. Kulturens study circle association make for minor contributions to the facilitators. During 2015 Local A. is working on the Tarlabasi Community Workshop and Exhibition pilot. Workshops with children in Tarlabasi in Istanbul are held in collaboration with Tarlabasi Community Center. An exhibition by Local A. is developed based on the material from the workshop following Local A.'s method of Workshop as Research. The exhibition is accomplished in collaboration with PASAJ gallery. A network of cultural agents is formed with the aim to mediate issues from Tarlabasi. The pilot is carried out with support from the Swedish Institute Creative Force. See www.local-a.org
