LocalStar is a subscription crowdfunding platform, or patron platform, targeted at empowering independent recording artists to sell their music & other content as subscriptions, instead of products, (like CDs or downloads) to grow supportive, lifelong fan bases. The music industry’s 20th-century business model is outdated. One-off sales are inefficient, while manufacturing, distributing and scaling products is a major barrier for indie artists (who create 80% of our music). Product sales are in freefall, and research shows that fans care more about accessing content than owning products. LocalStar provides access in a marketplace directly connecting artists to subscribing fans, marrying these financial & social aspects of the artist-fan relationship in an easy-to-use, disruptive platform offering a simple, lucrative and practical means to make music their job or career. Our mission is to become home to a new “music middle class” primed to redefine the industry this century.
