LOOKNorth Centre of Excellence Details
LOOKNorth is a Centre for Excellence for Commercialization and Research under the Canadian Networks of Centres of Excellence Program. LOOKNorth is hosted by C-CORE at Memorial University, St.John's Newfoundland. It collaborates with a broad network of industry, business, research and northern partners to verify and commercialize monitoring technologies that support safe and sustainable resource development in Canada's North. Its vision is to ensure that stakeholders in northern resource development have cost-effective, reliable access to the information needed for planning and decision-making related to exploration, development, production and transportation of natural resources in the diverse, dynamic, challenging and environmentally-sensitive environment of Canada's North. LOOKNorth focuses on the natural resource sector; primarily the oil and gas, mining, hydro electric and transportation sectors. The monitoring technologies of interest are those related to remote sensing, which can create products and services that provide information and knowledge to the natural resource sectors to overcome knowledge gaps, improve safety and cost effectiveness of operations, accelerate permitting, and make a positive impact to project economics.
