Nonprofit Organization Management - , Illinois, United States
Originally formed in 2008 as an organized baseball program for Chicago's South Shore residents, the mission of Lost Boyz Inc. developed further as the founder became concerned with the emerging anti-social behavioral patterns impacting local boys. In 2014 the organization noticed this persistent pattern affecting young ladies as well, and extended our services to include girls. Lost Boyz Inc.'s mission is to decrease violence, improve the social and emotional conditions, and provide financial opportunities among the youth in Chicago's South Shore community. With baseball training and competitive participation as our core drivers, our mission is achieved through high-intensity mentoring, intervention, and social entrepreneurship activities. We also incorporate cultural awareness, service learning, and civic engagement. We use this combination of programming and direct interaction to positively and permanently impact the lives of school age youth, resulting in life-altering character development and improved decision making. Our vision for the future is a renewed and continuous provision of opportunities to participate in organized little league for the South Shore neighborhood's at risk youth and a fully developed youth-driven economic redevelopment program. As the result of an "earn as you learn" approach, at risk youth would display improved social relations, scholastic aptitude, and trade skills development. This approach would promote economic reconstitution among younger generations of poor communities by establishing several community-vested, youth driven venues to attract new external revenue and revive non-residential consumer activity through the provision of quality service and product.
