Reputed to be the most challenging pilgrimage in the Christian World, Purgatorium Sancti Patricii - St Patrick's Purgatory Lough Derg has provided sanctuary for national and international pilgrims and visitors for over 1500 years. The centre provides pilgrims with the opportunity to take time out from their busy-everyday schedules, to relax, and to re-connect. Pilgrims can choose to complete the traditional Three-Day Pilgrimage which involves fasting, entering into a mantra-like programme of prayer, completing a 24 hour prayer vigil and walking around the small, Donegal based island without footwear. Alternatively retreatants may opt to spend just a few hours on the Island following a structured programme. Day Retreats are available each year during May, August and September while the three-day pilgrimage season extends between 1st June and 15th August.
