E-learning - Louisville, Kentucky, United States
The LuCa National Training Network offers education and technical assistance for equipping primary care providers to improve care for those at risk for, or diagnosed with, lung cancer. LuCa will work with health systems, state cancer coalitions, primary care organizations, and others interested in engaging PCPs around lung cancer topics, particularly low-dose CT screening and tobacco treatment.LuCa will disseminate best practices and provider resources, including:• Interactive online CME learning modules• Tools for PCP practices, both provider and patient• Technical assistance on reaching providers through academic detailing, group presentations, and webinars.Interest in lung cancer is growing among health care providers in response to treatment advances and the promise of early detection through lung cancer screening. Many studies have shown that lung cancer patients receive treatments at lower rates than other cancer patients, regardless of stage of diagnosis. In many areas of the U.S., high smoking rates indicate that lung cancer will continue to present challenges. Despite decades of research into tobacco use treatment, many providers still lack the skills to best assist patients in their quit attempts. LuCa is a three-year project at the University of Louisville (UofL), funded by the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation. LuCa builds on UofL's success in reaching nearly 1,500 Kentucky primary care providers with continuing medical education on lung cancer as part of the Kentucky LEADS Collaborative.
