Luciano is a Melbourne based arts educator and multidisciplinary artist. Inspired by domesticity, traditions of storytelling and the interwoven relationship between society and fibre, his artistic practice explores aspects of human nature, the shared and differing experience of communities and the relationship between people and textile crafts.Luciano has a deep interest in the embedded history of found, recycled and passed down materials. He seeks to intertwine the stories, symbolism, and memories of these items into new forms, building on the layers of existing materiality. Exploring various handcraft techniques, Luciano endeavours to link contemporary society with craft traditions through interactive experiences brought about through the integration of new media and video.As an educator, Luciano is passionate about encouraging children to develop the skills to be active citizens in a greatly connected and highly diverse world. Through his workshops, he aims to develop each child's understanding of self and others through discussion, making and analysis of artworks. Consequently, his workshops often explore themes of identity, cultural identity, cross-cultural understanding and giving voice to those who are or have been silenced.Discussion and analysis are key to Luciano's workshops, the analysis of the child's own art and the art of others enables children to develop an understanding of people's different experiences and perspectives of the same topics. This not only establishes a child's own viewpoint and confidence but introduces new perspectives and develops a level of understanding and empathy for others.
