Model: Luminaries was set up to address the growing lack of motivation and hope among many young people today. Many are fed up and disillusioned with the current system and feel that the system is set up for them to fail. Those from the most disadvantaged backgrounds do not feel a part of society and therefore likely to turn to crime and bad behaviour to earn money, respect and get a sense of belonging. However even among those from affluent backgrounds there is a prevalence of mental health problems and a similar sense of disillusionment with how society is being run by the hands of the few. Having worked with young people across the board I became concerned about the lack of employability skills that even University Graduates seem to lack, a lack of understanding about the working world and a sense that many young people lacked basic skills such as reading and writing. Many I met didn't see the point of ‘slaving' away to build another's dream, many were so anxious and depressed they could not be who they really were and could not live the life they wanted to live.Luminaries is here to work with those young people, help them see themselves and the world with fresh eyes, get them to see that the light, the fire the spark is always within them. By using a range of, motivational, confidence enhancing, employability and creative workshops, we hope to give young people the power and motivation to change their lives.Why Luminaries?Luminaries was founded by Bianca-Jade Brown a multiskilled coordinator with the ability to plan, organise and lead Employability, Youth and Personal Development programmes. Having led programmes for the Princes Trust, running a Get Employed Programme for the DWP and currently working on the DWP Welfare to Work contracts, I have amassed a wealth of experience. I have experience of coordinating programmes, putting together timetables and creating workshop lesson plans in Employability, Confidence Building and Creative Skills.
