Lumino is redefining navigational aid for the visually impaired with machine learning.Minorities in society are excluded from enjoying the most recent advancements in technology, which are often developed with the majority in mind. In a world designed for sighted people, the visually impaired are forced to navigate urban settings with tools that are unintuitive, costly, and obsolete. That has to change. We aim to bridge the digital divide and empower the visually impaired to explore the world with full autonomy. Lumino offers zero-latency environment identification and hazard/obstacle detection. Our navigation function, powered by a proprietary haptic feedback algorithm, makes Lumino more intuitive than Google and Apple Maps.Lumino was invited to showcase their product as a regional top 10 finalist at the 2019 Singapore Youth Innovation Showcase & Awards, and was a finalist in the Best Creative Idea Award.Since 2019, Lumino has been partnered with the Ebenezer School and Home for the Visually Impaired on conducting user tests and interviews. Their staff, students, and alumni have given us invaluable insight on the needs of the visually impaired.
