Paper & Forest Products - Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Santa Cruz, Bolivia
Maderera Boliviana Etienne S.A. (MABET S.A.) is a Bolivian Company established on September 5th, 1985. Since its foundation, it has shown a strong dedication to use its forest resources, which extend over more than 400,000 hectares, in an ecologically sustainable, profitable and socially responsible manner. As of 1993, Mabet began its export operations in the wood sector after making significant investments and strategic alliances. The company quickly entered the European, American and Asian markets and represented a peak market share of 40% of Bolivian Wood Exports. The main product for export until recent years used to be doors and frames, which were shipped mainly to the USA and Chile. Due to changing market conditions and substitutes in recent years, Mabet's focus increasingly shifted towards the production of processed wood, decking, flooring and rough wood, which are exported to clients all over the world, particularly in Europe and the United States.Around 2008, Mabet extended its scope and added the Brazil Nut as a new business division. The motivation for this step was to diversify the activities and to use the forest resources more profoundly. Initially, the focus of the Brazil Nut activities were limited to the collection and sales of the raw material to local factories. After years of positive experiences and consistent growth, Mabet amplified its scope and today integrates the value chain from collection until export to markets in Europa, America and Asia.Since starting operations, its paramount for Mabet to do this in a socially responsible way. With the awareness that the core activities provide the main income source for many families of the local communities, Mabet strives for a high degree of involvement through employment in the logging, harvesting and production processes and therewith provides support such as income and healthcare.
